Solar In the News:

Largest Solar Carport in Florida installed in Lakeland
Announcing a spectacular achievement by Atlantic Housing (AH). Atlantic Housing took a bold step with the installation of an unprecedented solar carport project in Florida.  This is the first of its size in Florida. AH is a true innovator and environmental pioneer with many solar carports and ground mounted solar farms in the design phase.  Each solar installation will contribute significantly to enhancing environmental quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Facts and figures:
  • Total system size: 59,500 watt (DC) solar electric system consisting of 340 SolarWorld Sunmodules, 175 watt monocrystalline panels spread out over 6 carports.   10 - SMA Inverters to convert solar energy (DC) to grid (AC) power.
  • How much electric will it offset? 74,460 kWH annually of clean, safe, abundant and free solar power.  The electricity generated will suffice the needs of the Clubhouse at Cambridge Cove and the excess power will be sold back to Lakeland Electric.
  • Other unique qualities: Largest solar carport project in Florida and the Southeastern U.S.
  • Expected annual offset is 57 metric tons Carbon Dioxide, 592 pounds Sulfur Dioxide, 370 pounds Nitrogen Oxides, and it will reduce CO2 emissions equivalent to the burning of 135 barrels of oil.
  • Energy savings over the 40 year life of the system $1,977,000 at current energy rates and an escalation rate of 7% per year.
The project is expected to be completed by mid November 2008.

Project is for Kathleen Pointe Partners, L.L.L.P., Winter Park, Florida
Construction Project Manager - Russ Hawes, CPG Construction
